Hygiene:
Use effective hand hygiene
Remove all jewellery on the hands and wrists
Keep fingernails short, clean and free of nail polish
Have bare arms below the elbow when delivering patient care
Cover cuts and abrasions with waterproof dressings
Appropriately manage equipment used to limit the risk of contamination with micro-organisms
Wear personal protective equipment where appropriate
Blood and bodily fluids:
Treat all blood and other bodily fluids as infected
Wear protective clothing when dealing with any bodily fluids and other substances that may be hazardous to health
Adhere to local environment hygiene policy including, where applicable, dealing promptly with bodily fluids
Sharps and clinical waste:
Only use approved sharps containers
Never dispose of waste in an already full receptacle
Perform hand hygiene following any waste handling/disposal
