Policy purpose

To understand the potential risks when undertaking domiciliary visits and to take steps to mitigate those risks.

Procedure checklist

Find out about the area in which you will be working to establish that it is suitability for a home visit and ensure there is suitable parking in a safe position

Always carry a charged mobile phone.

Ensure that a contact name and telephone number for the patient is obtained and recorded in the clinic software.

Avoid evening visits for a first appointment.

All staff will be familiar with all exits from the building they are visiting.

Everyone will have access to a first aid kit and a mobile telephone.

Natalie checks in regularly with Natalie Home Physio's family to ensure safety.

Natalie's family have access to her location via the Find my iPhone app.

In the case of emergency the Natalie Home Physio Administrator/Accountant is able to access the Dairy and patient details to locate Natalie.

If, during a domiciliary visit the lone worker feels uncomfortable in anyway, they should make a polite excuse to leave. No unnecessary risk should be taken with their safety.
